Following from their victorious win at the Mercury Music Awards, the XX have developed an innovative app for the iPhone so if you’re a fan of their self-titled album you might want to sell your mobile for an Apple device.

The band of the moment are probably worried that their fame and glory will soon be forgotten as the curse of the Mercury Prize takes hold, so as a way to remain in people’s minds, the indie rockers have launched an official iPhone app which sees them do something different from other musician apps.

Instead of using the typical news and videos and tweets formula like many artists do, the XX have taken inspiration from a project they devised earlier this year in collaboration with video director Saam Farahmand.

All three band members, Romy Madley Croft, Oliver Sim and Jamie Smith, were filmed playing songs individually which were then shown on three AV units in a physical exhibition. The project was aimed to be a 3D immersion experience, and the app plays upon the same concept.

So if you and two friends download the app on either your iPhone or iPod touches, you can synch them up so that each of your devices features a video from a different member of the XX playing a song while you all listen. It’s like your very own installation art piece.

Because it is free, you and your friends won’t have to pay cash for mobile phone apps so get your hands on it before The XX become irrelevant.
