Live IPL matches through mobile phone

Cricket fans may be tempted to sell their phones in order to purchase a mobile compatible with Youtube after it was announced that cricket fans can now watch IPL 2010 live matches through mobile phone via YouTube.

IPL and its licensing partner Global Cricket Ventures (GCV) have partnered with mobile internet provider July Systems to launch an IPL mobile internet service, specifically designed for the Indian market. Any person with an internet-enabled mobile phone, irrespective of the handset types or networks, can have access to live ball-by-ball video updates, action replays and video score cards of the matches.

This service will allow users to watch video clips of IPL matches right within the confines of their mobile phone screen. These clips will be played back in real time on the users’ phone after having the service activated. The activation is done by calling the MiX (Mobile Internet experience) platform or by accessing the WAP site. During the television broadcast of IPL, the phone number will be displayed on TV screens.

“We are on the cusp of a mobile internet revolution in India. Making the IPL ‘mobile’ could be the tipping point. The service has been designed for the common man who is not familiar with the internet. A simple phone call is all that is required to get started,” said Rajesh Reddy, founder and CEO of July Systems.
