Turn your standard mobile phone into a smartphone!

Twitter and Facebook on your Mobile!

OneApp is a new technology unveiled by Microsoft that can be easily downloaded from the internet. This new software allows non-smartphones to run applications such as Twitter and Facebook.

The idea of 'buying applications' will be different, though. OneApp will offer a standard package of applications, which are classified by operators. Standard phones lack the memory and processing power to run applications like smartphones.

Tim McDonough, Microsoft's senior director of mobile product management pronounced: "What we're letting you do is get access to the applications and services you want from a device you already own" "If you don't own a PC, or you share a PC, your mobile phone may be your first or only computing device.”

Blue Label Telecom in South Africa will become the very first operator to run OneApp. In a few weeks, maybe your standard mobile phone will be able to run applications such as Twitter, Facebook and Windows Live Messenger.

Application developers will be able to fine-tune the apps on offer in other regions. That will be made easier by tailoring the software to OneApp, rather than adjusting it for a variety of handsets.
