Palm Pre has received excellent reviews and it has been estimated; about a million handsets have already been sold ever since its launch in the US. iPhone and Blackberry are the most popular devices in the smartphone market, but the entrance of Palm Pre will escalate the growing battle of the high-end smartphones.
According to the market research specialist firm, Nielsen Company, the internet is now accessed on mobile phones by more than 10 million people in the UK. It has increased from 8.8 million to 10.4 million between July and September this year. Interestingly, there is a massive 10% rise in usage between the second and third quarters of 2009 alone.
This phenomenon can be credited to the rapid growth of smartphones, such as – iPhones, Blackberry etc. Due to many advanced features and ease of accessing internet on these phones, the mobile internet is now able to meet customers' expectations, according to an expert.
A study conducted by Gartner revealed that the sales figure of smartphones grew by nearly 30% in the second quarter of this year, while sales of traditional mobile phones fell by 6% during the same period.
Edd Dawson, editor of broadband.co.uk, stated that mobile websites used to be pretty poor quality. With the emergence of high-end handsets like the iPhone, the overall experience have improved dramatically due to the ease of use, fully functional browsers and increased speed.
According to research from the Nielsen Company, browsing the web was the fastest growing activity on UK mobile phones between the second and third quarters of 2009.
To support the fact that more than one-fifth of UK’ population now use their handsets to browse the web, Mr. Dawson said: "We have actually hit a turning point now in that mobile phones are now capable of giving people the experience they want." He further added: "If I've got my iPhone with me it is much quicker to check a website on my phone than it is to go and get a laptop and boot it up."
