Dakota: a new addition into Blackberry family

A new Blackberry

The Canadian company, Research In Motion (RIM) is due to release a new smartphone called “Dakota”. This handset will offer an interesting combination of touchscreen and QWERTY keyboard.

Unlike the earlier handsets by RIM, this smartphone would not have a trackball. This feature would enable the users to type text on the QWERTY keyboard and navigate through the interface with their fingers.

According to Techtree.com: “The Dakota is also likely to sport a liquid lens camera that changes its shape to focus, rather than relying on a bulky mechanical focus method. It is also expected to arrive in a smaller form factor.”

The camera is made by Philips and would offer numerous improved features compared to the earlier versions of Blackberry.

Industry experts believe that RIM’S concept of combining half touchscreen, half physical keyboard is likely to be a successful combination.

Gareth Beavis from Techradar.com mentioned: “It would solve the riddle RIM's been struggling with since the release of the Storm, where it wants to get involved with touchscreen phones, but its legions of fans have grown up using a keyboard and don't want to switch.”

Further details about this smartphone are yet to be announced by RIM.
