Selling A Phone To Mobile Phone Xchange

How Does It Work?

Our Guide to Selling Your Phone

If you want to generate a little extra cash by selling your old mobile phone  to an exchange website, but are not sure how they work, then our below guide should tell you everything you need to know...

Firstly, your mobile phone needs to be in full working order and have no more than superficial damage to the screen and body,

How do you know if your phone is in full working order?

  1. The phone must be free from water damage
  2. The phone must switch on and off
  3. The phone must make a test call
  4. The display must be fully functional
  5. No pixels missing
  6. No cracks or bleeding
  7. Touch-screens should be free from major scratching
  8. All the buttons on the keypad must work
  9. Any other functionality must work e.g. Bluetooth, Camera, Wireless

In addition if the battery does not work or is in poor condition it is probably worth purchasing a new battery before selling your phone.  Phones with old or malfunctioning batteries will sell for less.

If your phone meets the above criteria then visit a phone exchange site such as Mobile Phone Xchange.

Search for your model and get a price for a fully working phone. Be aware that the  price you are quoted assumes that your phone is in full working order. If it is not then the price paid may differ, depending on the nature of the fault. You could also choose to exchange your phone for Argos vouchers, which will be for a value slightly above the cash price offered, so this is well worth considering!

What To Do Next To Sell Your Phone

If you are happy with the quoted price, you will be sent a freepost padded envelope within 2 to 3 days with a unique reference number so that your order can be safely tracked. You need to send your phone within 14 days

Make sure your phone is charged, switched off, has the SIM and memory cards removed and any personal data (photos etc) has been deleted before you send it!  In addition you will also need to remove any pins and security codes; the best way to do this is to ‘reset’ to factory settings.  You don't usually need to provide the charger.

We’d recommend that you get a certificate of posting from your post office insuring you for free up to a value of £39.  Alternatively, send the items special delivery, which will cost approximately £4.75 & cover up to £500.

When your phone is received it will be checked  to ensure all parts are included  and that the phone is in working order.  If it isn’t considered to be in good working order then you may be offered a reduced price.

Once Mobile Phone Xchange has received and checked your phone, you will be sent payment within approximately 3 days. Some exchanges will buy non-working phones but expect to get a greatly reduced price.
