The rise of the camera phone
Since the introduction of camera phones, more and more mobile phone manufacturers have joined the struggle for the best camera phone. At first there were poor cameras with phone capabilities, now there are 8 MP phone cameras which include autofocus, flash, 3x optical zoom, immediate sharing options and editing software. Nowadays, owners of a camera phone are able to take photos and videos of great quality, have video chats, and share all their media while they film it. This innovation has changed our lives significantly in many ways.
Journalism
A good example is the impact of camera phones have on journalism: Everyone is able to record notable events, such as disasters and crimes, which offer great help to find out what was really going on. A good example would be the videos and photographs taken of the 7 July 2005 London bombings.
Crimes
Although camera phones are a useful tool in crime prevention, they are also used to help people commit crimes. Voyeurism, copyright infringement and invasion of privacy are much more likely to happen now, and it's hard to deal with it because sharing can be instantaneous. A fake camera noise when a picture is taken is supposed to lower the amount of those crimes, but there are easy ways to get round this measure.
Improvement
The quality of the camera phones is getting better every year, and more functions are added to every new camera phone to make the camera more useful. Applications on smartphones which use the camera to recognise objects is just one the many new functions of the camera.
