How To Negotiate A Cheaper Mobile Phone Contract -

Upgrade Your Handset -

And Sell Your Mobile Phone For Cash!

A recession is the best time to negotiate a cheaper mobile phone contract from your operator, who is likely to be suffering from the credit crunch too. It’s also easier than ever to earn more cash when you sell your old mobile phone once you have received your nice new shiny upgrade.

Just follow our step by step guide to a better phone contract:

  • Your current contract must be coming to an end within the next couple of months otherwise you won’t have much negotiating power. Find out when this is and then choose to call them on the nearest last Friday of the month, or even better the last Friday of the quarter, as call centres have targets to meet and they will be even more desperate to get you a new deal.

  • Check your itemised bills and find out what you are spending all your money on- there is no point in getting 50% off all picture messages if you have never even sent one! Likewise, if you know you are spending a fortune on text messages you will want to increase the number of free texts you can send each month.

  • Get quotes from the competition- you must know what deals are out there so you can show the operator you mean business. This applies to handsets too- find out which mobile phone you want and check if they are offered free by other operators. You can also check how much you can sell mobile phones for on Mobile Phone Xchange so in 12-18 months when you are ready to upgrade again you can maximise your earnings!

  • Figure out what you would like to pay (be realistic) and what handset you want and then write it down so you can refer to it easily during the call. The longer you are willing to sign a contract for the cheaper the deal will be- standard these days is 18 months.
